Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Vice-Chancellor P Thangaraju called for effective use of the advances in imaging technology for promotion of research in veterinary anatomy, which will help promote growth of animal husbandry sector and rural development. Speaking after inaugurating the
nation symposium 'Recent advances in anatomy of domestic animals with special reference to developmental anatomy' here today, he said the advanced imaging tools like electron microscopy tomography, scanning microscopy and immuno-enzymohisto chemistry help monitor the structural and ultrastructural details of animal body and diagnose ailments. He urged veterinary anatomists to focus on functional application, clinical aspects, research in stem cell and embryology, having enormous scope for employment around the globe.
Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University former vice-chancellor Manmohan Singh emphasised private participation in education and research in veterinary science as the government alone is not in a position to meet the growing demands.
Saying that the government was not in a position to invest Rs 50 crore and more for setting up of a veterinary college, he stressed the need for encouraging private sector in this field, which is already playing a major role in vaccine and fodder production.
Singh said Indian Council for Veterinary Research (ICVR) should be set up on the lines of ICAR to promote veterinary research. "We have-to lobby hard to get ICVR set up by centre as some agricultural scientists are against the proposal," he said.
Singh felicitated retired faculty members of SWU and those who worked for the development of Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists (IAVA), which is organising the three-day convention. Chairman of the convention PW Satyanarayana Reddy and organising secretary TS Chandrasekhara Rao and others were present
