  1. GNAYIRU – SUN – SOORIYANAR KOIL- சூரியன்
Moolavar: Sri Kasi Viswanathar
The first Navagraha temple is the Suryanar Koyil. It is situated in the small village called Tirumangalakkudi of Tamil Nadu. Thirumangalakudi is located just one Kilometer north of Aduthurai, which lies in between Kumbakonam (15.km) and Mayiladuthurai(20.km) on the bus route as well as Train route. Devotees visit this temple to offer remedies for the bad effects of the sun and all other planets. It is an exclusive shrine dedicated to the Sun God and was built during the Chola period. Pilgrims worship Lord Siva – Sri Prananathar and Goddess Sri Mangalambigai at Thirumangalakudi and then go to Suriyanarkoil to worship Navagrahas. In Suriyanarkoil the sun is the main deity and other grahas are installed in separate sanctums.




  1. THINGAL – MOON - CHANDHIRAN – THINGALUR - சந்திரன்
Moolavar: Sri Kailasanathar

The Kailasanathar (Siva) temple of Thingalur is second temple of the Navagraha group. It is associated with Chandra (moon) and this temple houses a small shrine dedicated to Chandran.
This place, which is 4 kilometer from Thiruvaiyaru, can be reached by bus from Thanjavur (10.k.m.) via Thiruvaiyaru and also from Kumbakonam (35km) via Swamimalai. The temple is located 2 kilometers away from the main road.
The main deity: Sri Kailasanathar
Goddess: Sri Periyanayagi



  1. CHEVVAI –MARS - ANGHARAKAN – VAITHEESWARAN KOIL - செவ்வாய்
Moolavar: Sri Vaitheeswarar
Then in the list comes the name of the third Navagraha temple, the Vaidyanatha (Siva) temple at Vaitheeshwaran Kovil near Sirkazhi. This temple is associated with Angaraka (Mars). A shrine for Angaraka can be seen inside this temple. There is a bronze image of Angaraka, which is placed in this shrine and is taken out in procession every Tuesday.
It can be reached by bus as well as by train.Private lodges are available.The Special deity for this place is Muthukumaraswamy(Lord Murugan-Karthik)




  1. BUDHAN – MERCURY – THIRUVENGADU - புதன்
Moolaver: Sri Swatharanyeswarar
The fourth Navagraha sthalas is in Tiruvenkadu. It is situated near Mayavaram @ Mayiladudurai, which is special to Budhan (Mercury). The very big Siva temple here is called the Swetaranyeswarar temple and it is famous for its shrine dedicated to Mercury (Budhan).
This place can be reached by bus from Mayiladuthurai (25km) and from Sirkali (15km).Lord Nataraja has a special seperate sanctum as in Chidambaram. The special deity of this temple is Sri Ahoramurthy (one of the forms of Lord Siva).




  1. VIYAZHAN – JUPITER - GURU – ALANGUDI - வியாழன்
Moolavar: Sri Aabhatsakayeswarar
The Siva temple at Alangudi near Kumbakonam is the fifth of the Navagraha temple. It is known as the Abatsakayar temple. This place is well known as `Gurusthalam`, where Jupiter (Dakshinamurthi or Guru) is worshipped. When Jupiter transits between zodiac signs, a large number of people assemble here to offer worship.
Alangudi can be reached by bus from Tanjavur(35Km)via Needamangalam and also from kumbakonam(15 Km)via Valangaiman.




  1. VELLI – VENUS - SUKRAN – KANJANOOR  - வெள்ளி
Moolavar: Sri Agneeswarar
The Kanjanur near Suryanarkovil is the sixth of the Navagraha sthalas. Here, the Agnishwaraswamy (Siva) temple is associated with Venus (Sukran). The seventh Navagraha temple is the Dharbaranyeshwarar (Siva) temple at Tirunalfar, which lies near Karaikal. It is a big temple complex, which has a well-known shrine for Saturn (Saneeshwaran). Lots of devotees assemble here during the period when the planet Saturn transits between zodiac signs.
It lies 2 kilometers east of Suriyanarkoil, can be reached from Mayiladuthurai (20km)Via Kadiramangalam and also from Kumbakonam (18km)Via Vepattur. Here Lord Agnipuriswarar blesses as Sukradev. There is no separate idol from Sukra.



  1. SANI – SATURN – THIRUNALLARU - சனி
Moolavar: Sri Dharbaranyeswarar
Thirunallar is situated about 5 km from the Old French town of Karaikkal and is served by the Southern Railways. It is also well served by buses from surrounding towns such as Mayawaram, Karaikkal or Kumbakonam.
Thirunallar is 5 kilometers from Karaikkal, which can be reached by bus from Mayiladuthurai (30km) from Kumbakonam (45km) or from Nagapattinam (20km). A separate sanctum is provided for Shani. It is very pleasing to watch and to worship the pooja of Emerald lingh, which is conducted around 10A.M daily.



  1. RAGHU - North Lunar Node – THIRUNAGESWARAM - ராகு
Moolavar: Sri Naganathar
Another Navagraha temple is the Tirunageswaram, which is situated very near Kumbakonam. A shrine for Siva can be found here, which is known as Nageswarar. This Siva temple is very big and is famous for its shrine of Raahu, one of the nine celestial bodies.
This place is just 6 kilometers away from Kumbakonam in Karraikkal route. Considerable numbers of busses ply via Thirunageswaram. The special feature is this temple - when milk is poured (Abishek) on Raghu, the colour of milk changes into blue.



  1. KETHU – South Lunar Node - KEEZHA PERUMPALLAM - கேது

Moolavar: Sri Naganathar
The last and the ninth temple of the Navagraha group is the Naganathar (Siva) temple. It is also known as the Kethu Navagrahastalam in Keezhperum-pallam, near Tiruvenkaadu. There is a shrine dedicated to Kethu in this temple and it is visited by numerous pilgrims.
This place is 2 kilometers south of Dharmankulam, which is on Mayiladuthurai (20km) Poombukar – (5km) route. It can be reached from Sirkali (20km) also. Very few buses ply to Keelaperumpallam from Mayiladuthurai.
