ADVANCES IN MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES FOR EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE IN FARM AND PET ANIMALS

Introduction
Veterinary emergency and critical care in farm and pet animals is the field that requires specialized and timely management of the critically ill patients. The increased awareness amongst pet and farm animal owners due to the information technology necessitates a veterinarian to keep abreast with the advanced techniques in the management procedures for Emergency and Critical Care in Farm and pet animals with the aid of various monitoring equipments and life saving protocols. Hence a Summer school on “Advances in Management Procedures For Emergency And Critical Care in Farm and Pet Animals” sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, is scheduled to be conducted at the Emergency and Critical Care Unit, Resident Veterinary Services Section, Directorate of Clinics, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai-600 007 from 11-11.08 to 01.12 08 for exposing and updating the skills of the teachers in SAU/SVUs on Emergency and Critical Care techniques for application in day to day teaching and practice.

Objectives
1. To refresh the participants knowledge in the areas of emergency and critical care.
2. To build the capacity of the participants in utilizing various management and monitoring capabilities in critically ill animals in day to day teaching, research and practice.
Course Description
The Summer school will constitute hands-on-training and lectures on various Emergency and Critical Care techniques and group discussions. This summer school will provide an excellent platform for mutual interaction between faculties in the specialized areas and the participants in order to apply these techniques in teaching, research and practice to save the life of animal and to augment production.

Madras Veterinary College established in 1903 is a constituent unit of TANUVAS and a premier institution offering Veterinary education in India. The ECCU of Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital located in the heart of the city receives a number of accident, trauma, obstetrical, envenomed, poisoning and acute metabolic disorders cases round the clock..

v The Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital is well equipped with latest Vital Sign Monitor, Radiant Warmer, Pulse Oximetry, Ultrasound scanners, Color Doppler, Gastro fibro scope, Bronchoscope, Laparoscope, Video endoscope, arthroscopy, phacoemulsification and direct ophthalmoscope.
v The Madras Veterinary College has well established Bioinformatics Center, Library and Internet Kiosk.

Participants
The summer school course is designed for scientists/teachers and researchers in ICAR institutes, SAUs/Veterinary Colleges in the areas of Veterinary Medicine, Surgery, Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology & Obstetrics. The applications may be sent in the prescribed format with the recommendation of the employer to reach the Director, Summer School before 11.10.2008. However, an advance copy may also be sent to the Director.

Boarding
Accommodation and food will be provided. The participants are requested not to bring family members with them. TA/DA will be paid to the participants as per ICAR norms. The participants are advised to make their onward and return journey reservations at their end in advance.

The main sites of attractions include Marina Beach, Golden Beach, the Forts and Rock temples of Mahabalipuram. The minimum and maximum temperature will be 22.25oC and 29.75oC respectively in the month of November. The domestic airport connects this city with all major cities of India. The Chennai Central railway station (0.4km) connects the with all cities of the Country.
